December 2017 Cost Connections

Season’s Greetings from the CIQS-BC Board of Directors

Season’s Greetings from CIQS - Prairies & N.W.T.

Already the calendar shows there are only a few working days left in 2017. I’m sure many of us are asking where 2017 went even as we begin the annual tradition of mentally compiling our lists of achievements and those things left for 2018.

Another tradition of the holiday season is reflecting on the many good fortunes in our lives. Certainly our families – personal and work – and friends take top honours on the list. My list also includes satisfaction with my job, and my choice of profession. My colleagues, clients and even the larger community of Canadian construction and its related professions is a continuing source of challenge and pride for me.

We are also fortunate to live in a country as caring, welcoming and democratic as Canada. While we can, and do, take issue with the policies and initiatives of governments at all levels, our country offers opportunity, inclusion and a quality of life that is the envy of the world. Our own profession of quantity surveying has welcomed many new Canadians eager to lend their expertise to our practices while making Canada their new home. If you are experiencing one of your first holiday seasons in your new home country, make the most of this glorious time of year! Celebrate your traditions while learning some new Canadian ones.

Let’s continue working together and helping each other both within our professional community and for the good of Canadians across the country. We can extend our hand during the holiday season to help those less fortunate. Take time this year, and in the coming months, to give hope and help to those who need a helping hand. I know many of you enrich your lives through voluntarism and other good works. You are an example to us all. Thank you.

Next year, 2018, looks solid for our Prairies and NWT region. Economic forecasts look promising, and I know there are projects in each of our communities that will benefit from our professional expertise.

On behalf of CIQS Prairies and NWT, I wish you all a healthy, happy and safe holiday season and a happy and prosperous 2018.

Sincerely,

Michael Gabert
President
