NEW CONGRESS BURSARY PROGRAM

David Lai Young Quantity Surveyor Congress Bursary Program

In recognition of the volunteer contributions of David Lai, PQS(F) over the past 10 years and his invaluable work on the Education portfolio, CIQS is pleased to announce the establishment of the David Lai Young Quantity Surveyor (YQS) Congress Bursary Program.

The bursary program will provide funding for one YQS from each Affiliate region in Canada to attend Congress. Please see the program application guidelines for full details and requirements.

Before discovering VR, Dora was a Project Manager/Game Producer for AAA console videogames such as FIFA and The Sims at Electronic Arts, and critically-acclaimed social and casual games at Big Fish Games.

Dora has been a VR enthusiast and evangelist since putting on the Oculus Rift DK1 for the first time. She co-founded uForis VR, and set out to solve problems using virtual reality. uForis currently focuses on real estate. The TELUS Sky site tour will give CIQS members an insightful perspective of the innovative 58-storey LEED Platinum design building by the Danish Architect Bjarke Ingels Group. Comprising 761,235 sf of office mixed-use tower that will incorporate 421,738 sf of office space, retail and residential accommodation will showcase very interesting structural elements and architectural form.

Mo Sabouti brings over 14 years of experience in the construction industry including major infrastructure projects and also energy sector (natural resources).

He acquired a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and got certifications in Construction Estimating, Construction Project Management, Construction Law and Sustainability & Energy.

He is also a Professional Quantity Surveyor (PQS) from CIQS, Gold Seal Certified (GSC) from CCA and COR Certified from IHSA.

He was part of the bidding team for Ottawa LRT and Eglinton LRT Crosslinx at Dragados Canada.

Currently Mo is a “Senior Cost Consultant” at Turner & Townsend, involved with multimillion dollar infrastructure project with TTC.

Amir is a Professional Quantity Surveyor, Civil Engineer, and Gold Seal Certified construction professional who joined York in 2016 as a Senior Estimator and brings over 14 years of experience in construction estimating for large, multimillion dollar civil and infrastructure construction projects, ICI, energy, oil and gas projects. He promoted to “Director, Estimating” in 2018 to overseeing the estimation department for excavation, demolition and environmental divisions.

Amir has experience working with government and international companies such as Carrefour, Shell, Total, Sasol, Enercon in energy sector and working with large size Canadian companies. Amir is currently on the Ontario board of directors for the Canadian Institute of Quantity Surveyors.

Amir was part of the team that worked on the largest and tallest Wind Farm project in North America which called Niagara Region Wind Farm.

His professional expertise is in the area of construction claims management, construction project management, estimating and bidding, and project controls.

Mr. Youmans is the President and CEO of the Matheson Group of Companies which includes Matheson Constructors Limited, TapaMatheson Constructors Inc. and Tribury Constructors Inc., construction firms building ICI and civil projects across Ontario.
 
Allan was raised in Timmins, Ontario and graduated from the Construction Engineering Management Program at Fanshawe College in London, Ontario.
 
He is a Gold Seal Certified project manager and is a longstanding member of the Canadian Institute of Quantity Surveyors, the Ontario General Contractors Association, and Georgian College of Applied Arts and Technology Civil Technology Advisory Board.
